B2B ecommerce portal development

Custom B2B Ecommerce Portal Development for Wholesale Buyers

Join.To.IT builds B2B ecommerce portals for wholesalers and manufacturers whose buyers log in to see their price, request a quote, punch out from procurement, and pay on net terms. This is not a DTC cart and not a multi-seller marketplace.

B2B portal solutions we build

Trade buying with roles, quotes, and credit — not a consumer checkout

Wholesale buyers do not shop like a DTC customer. They belong to an account, see a contracted price, often need a colleague to approve, and may pay on net terms or return a cart to a procurement system. A consumer storefront plus a “wholesale discount code” does not cover that.

We build the buyer portal and the sales-ops tools around it: price lists, quotes, punchout, credit checks, and role permissions. ERP remains the system of record for inventory and invoices when that is already true. The portal is how buyers and salespeople stop emailing spreadsheets.

Portals for accounts, not anonymous carts

Begin with price lists and quotes — the two places wholesale teams leak margin and time — then add punchout and credit.

01

Accounts and buyer roles

Company accounts with buyers, approvers, and finance users, each limited to the catalogues and actions they are allowed.

  • Company and location accounts
  • Buyer, approver, and finance roles
  • Spend and order limits
  • User provisioning and SSO
  • Sales-rep account visibility
02

Account-based pricing

Contract and list prices that resolve per account, location, or volume break — not a sitewide sale banner.

  • Customer-specific price lists
  • Volume and contract breaks
  • UOM and pack-size pricing
  • Promotional overlays with audit
  • Margin alerts for sales
03

Quotes and negotiated orders

Request, revise, and convert quotes with expiry and approval, so negotiated deals are not trapped in email.

  • Quote request from catalogue
  • Sales revision and expiry
  • Convert quote to order
  • Partial quote acceptance
  • Quote history on the account
04

Punchout and procurement

cXML or similar punchout so buyers start in their procurement tool, shop your catalogue, and return a cart for PO issue.

  • Punchout session handling
  • Cart return to procurement
  • PO and confirmation mapping
  • Catalogue subsets per buyer
  • Session logging for support
05

Net terms and credit

Checkout that can place an order on account when credit allows, and hold it when the ERP says the account is over limit.

  • Net terms at account level
  • Credit limit checks
  • Order hold and release
  • Invoice visibility for finance buyers
  • ERP AR integration
06

Reorder, lists, and sales tools

Fast reorder from history, saved lists, and a sales view of the same prices the buyer sees.

  • Reorder from invoices
  • Saved lists and templates
  • CSV and punch-in order pads
  • Sales-assisted cart sharing
  • Backorder and allocation messages
AI for wholesale portals

Help sales and buyers without hiding the contract price

B2B portals generate quote notes, punchout errors, and “what did we order last quarter” questions. AI is useful on search, quote drafting, and support — always showing the account’s price, never a public web price.

Our Join.To.IT AI development team connects these capabilities to your price lists, quotes, and ERP order history.

Account-aware product search

Search the subset and attributes that account may buy, ranking with stock and their contract range — not consumer merchandising.

Quote draft from history

Draft a quote from last orders and current price list for sales to edit, including pack sizes and UOM.

Punchout session diagnostics

Summarise failed punchout payloads so IT and sales see a mapping issue instead of a blank procurement cart.

Buyer support with account context

Answer invoice, shipment, and backorder questions from that company’s orders, then escalate credit issues to humans.

Price-list exception flags

Surface SKUs selling below floor or missing a contract row before the buyer sees a wrong number.

B2B portal integrations

Connect the portal to ERP, credit, and procurement

We integrate ERP for items, inventory, invoices, and credit, payment providers for card-on-file when you offer it, tax, and procurement punchout endpoints.

The portal should not become a second warehouse. Stock, invoices, and credit limits stay with ERP when that is your source of truth. We do not build a consumer marketplace of third-party sellers on this page.

Why custom software

Why wholesale portals are not a DTC theme with a login

Hosted retail platforms can add a B2B layer. Custom development earns its place when account pricing, quotes, punchout, and net terms are how you sell — and the consumer cart still shows the wrong price to the wrong buyer.

Price is contractual

A leaked list price or a shared discount code is a commercial incident, not a merchandising tweak.

Quotes are the order

Many wholesale deals never start in a cart. They start as a quote that must convert without retyping.

Punchout is how enterprises buy

If procurement will not leave their tool, you need a session that returns a cart they can approve.

Net terms are not a wallet

Credit holds and invoice visibility belong next to the order, tied to ERP, not a consumer pay button.

Roles beat a shared password

Buyers, approvers, and finance users need different catalogues and limits. A single login is not a portal.

Our development process

From wholesale rules to a working buyer portal

The same Join.To.IT delivery process, applied to accounts, price lists, quotes, punchout, and net terms.

01

Business analysis

Map how accounts are set up, how prices are agreed, how quotes are approved, and where punchout or net terms already exist.

02

Solution design

Define account, price, quote, and order objects, plus ERP, SSO, and procurement integrations and which system owns credit.

03

UI/UX design

Design buyer, approver, and sales-rep interfaces so contract price is obvious and consumer-style upsell is not the default.

04

Development

Build accounts and price resolution first, then quotes, punchout, and credit holds in releases sales can pilot with real buyers.

05

Quality assurance

Test price leakage, role permissions, quote conversion, punchout round-trips, and over-limit holds before opening the portal wide.

06

Launch & support

Launch with a buyer cohort and sales-rep support, then migrate remaining accounts and retire spreadsheet price lists.

FAQ

B2B ecommerce portal development questions

Practical answers for wholesale operators, sales leaders, and IT teams who sell to other businesses.

How much does B2B ecommerce portal development cost?
Scope follows price-list complexity, quotes, punchout, and ERP depth. Account login with contract prices is a contained portal. Adding quotes, net terms, and procurement punchout is larger. We price after mapping accounts and systems of record, not like a DTC theme project.
Is this a DTC store with a wholesale code?
No. Buyers see account prices, roles, quotes, punchout, and net terms. There is no consumer cart as the primary path and no third-party seller onboarding. If you sell only branded DTC, use the DTC brands page. If you run many sellers, use online marketplaces.
Can you implement punchout with our procurement tool?
Where the buyer’s platform supports cXML or a documented punchout protocol, yes. We handle session start, catalogue subset, and cart return, and we log failures. We do not claim we are certified on every procurement suite; we work from their spec and a test buyer.
How do account pricing and quotes stay accurate?
Price lists resolve per account and location, with volume breaks and an audit of overlays. Quotes snapshot the price at issue, expire, and convert without retyping. ERP remains the source for cost and often for the list itself when that is already how you operate.
Do you support net terms and credit holds?
Yes. Terms live on the account. Orders check credit with ERP or your AR rules and hold when over limit. Finance buyers can see invoices. We do not underwrite credit or collect debt. The portal enforces the policy you already run.
Should we replace Shopify for wholesale?
Only if Shopify cannot express account pricing, quotes, punchout, or terms you actually use. Some teams keep Shopify for a public catalogue and run a custom B2B portal beside it. We will not rip out a working merchant platform to install a consumer cart for trade buyers.
