Custom Software for Retail and Commerce Operations

Join.To.IT builds commerce systems for brands, marketplaces, and wholesalers whose model has outgrown a standard storefront. We work on the parts that are specific to your business: pricing and catalogue logic, order and inventory operations, B2B buying, subscriptions, and the integrations that hold them together.

Commerce software solutions we build

Custom where the platform stops, integrated everywhere else

Hosted commerce platforms handle standard retail well, and for many businesses they are the right answer. The friction starts with customer-specific pricing, complex bundles, multi-warehouse stock, wholesale terms, or a marketplace model with several parties in one transaction.

We build the parts that need to be yours — checkout logic, order orchestration, B2B portals, subscription rules — and integrate them with the systems handling the rest. The goal is a commerce operation that matches your model without a team of people reconciling it by hand.

AI for retail and commerce

Better discovery, fewer support tickets, cleaner data

Commerce has the data volume that makes AI genuinely useful: catalogue content, search behaviour, order history, and support conversations. The gains are usually in discovery, service, and the manual work of maintaining product data.

Our Join.To.IT AI development team connects these capabilities to your catalogue, order history, and support content.

Semantic product search

Understand intent and attributes rather than exact keywords, so shoppers find products your search currently misses.

Recommendations

Suggest related and complementary products from behaviour and order history, tuned to margin and stock, not just clicks.

Customer support assistants

Answer order, delivery, and product questions from your own policies and order data, escalating to staff when unsure.

Catalogue content generation

Draft descriptions, attributes, and translations at scale for merchandisers to review before publishing.

Demand and returns insight

Surface patterns in sales and return reasons to inform buying decisions and product page improvements.

Commerce integrations

Connect commerce with ERP, payments, and logistics

Commerce systems sit in the middle of a wide stack. We integrate payment providers, ERP and accounting systems, warehouse and 3PL platforms, carriers, marketplaces and sales channels, PIM tools, marketing and CRM platforms, and analytics.

Where you already run a hosted platform for part of the business, we integrate with it rather than arguing for a rebuild. Custom development should cover what the platform cannot, not duplicate what it does well.

Why custom software

When a hosted platform stops fitting the business

Hosted commerce platforms are excellent at standard retail. Custom development earns its place when your pricing, buying process, or fulfilment model is a source of competitive advantage that the platform treats as an edge case.

Pricing logic is commercial

Contract pricing, tiered discounts, and negotiated terms rarely fit the promotion engine of a standard platform.

B2B buying is not B2C checkout

Approvals, credit terms, and multi-user accounts need a purpose-built flow rather than a consumer cart.

Fulfilment is where costs hide

Multi-warehouse allocation, dropship routing, and partial shipments cause manual work when orchestration is weak.

Channels multiply the data problem

Every extra sales channel adds catalogue and stock sync that becomes unmanageable without one source of truth.

Plugin sprawl has a ceiling

Stacking apps to cover gaps eventually costs more in fees, conflicts, and performance than building the piece properly.

Our development process

From commerce model to a working platform

The same Join.To.IT delivery process, applied to storefronts, order operations, and the portals your trade customers use.

01

Business analysis

Review catalogue, pricing, order, and fulfilment flows, and identify where the current platform forces manual workarounds.

02

Solution design

Decide what to build, what to integrate, and what to leave on the existing platform, then define the architecture around that.

03

UI/UX design

Design storefront, portal, and back-office interfaces with conversion and merchandiser efficiency treated as equal goals.

04

Development

Build storefront, services, and integrations in increments, releasing revenue-affecting improvements as early as possible.

05

Quality assurance

Test pricing rules, payment and tax handling, stock accuracy, and behaviour under peak load before trading periods.

06

Launch & support

Launch with monitoring on performance and conversion, then keep tuning search, merchandising, and fulfilment rules.

FAQ

E-commerce software development questions

Practical answers for retail founders, e-commerce directors, and wholesale operations leads.

How much does custom e-commerce development cost?
It depends on how much you build versus integrate. A B2B portal on top of an existing platform is a contained project; a marketplace with seller payouts and custom fulfilment is substantially larger. We scope after reviewing your catalogue, order volume, and integration list, then price against a defined feature set.
Should we replace Shopify or our current platform?
Often not. Hosted platforms handle standard retail well, and replacing one wholesale is rarely the cheapest path to the outcome you want. We usually recommend building the specific capability the platform cannot support and integrating it, then revisiting the platform decision only if the constraints keep compounding.
Can you build a multi-vendor marketplace?
Yes. Marketplaces need seller onboarding, listing moderation, commission rules, split payments, and dispute handling on top of normal commerce. We build the platform and integrate a payment provider that supports marketplace payouts; the provider handles regulated money movement, not us.
Can you integrate with our ERP and warehouse systems?
Yes, this is usually the core of the work. We connect orders, stock, products, and fulfilment status between commerce and your ERP, WMS, or 3PL, including reconciliation for failures. Where a system has no API, we build validated scheduled file exchanges instead.
How do you handle peak traffic?
Peak readiness is a design decision: caching strategy, a scalable hosting architecture, queue-based processing for spikes, and load testing before trading periods. We test against your expected peak with headroom, and monitor in production so bottlenecks surface before customers notice them.
Do you build customer mobile apps?
Where repeat purchase justifies it. For most retailers, a fast responsive storefront serves customers better than an app nobody reinstalls. Apps make sense for subscription, loyalty-heavy, or frequent-reorder models, and for B2B buyers who order regularly from the same catalogue.
