Trucking software development

Custom Software for Trucking and Freight Operations

Join.To.IT builds freight software for carriers and 3PLs that live on loads and lanes: tenders, driver and carrier documents, detention, and the status a shipper actually trusts. We do not run a carrier network, and we do not confuse a trailer load with a courier bag or a passenger trip.

Freight software solutions we build

Loads, documents, and shipper visibility in one freight system

Trucking operations stall on paperwork and clocks, not on a missing pin on a city map. Tenders arrive by email and EDI. Driver and carrier packets are incomplete. Detention starts and nobody owns the timestamp. Shippers call because the portal still says “dispatched”. Courier software will not model this, and ride-hailing software should not.

We build systems around the load as the unit of work: lane, equipment, documents, events on the clock, and a customer view that matches what the driver actually did.

Platforms built for carriers and freight desks

Start with load control and documents — where revenue leaks — then detention and shipper visibility.

01

Load and shipment control

Tenders become loads with equipment, stops, references, and status, not a thread of emails and a shared sheet.

  • Tender intake and load creation
  • Multi-stop freight itineraries
  • Equipment and trailer assignment
  • Status from booked to delivered
  • Reconsignment and extra stops
02

Lane and rate support

Keep the lanes you sell and the rate rules you actually use, without pretending we are a public load board marketplace.

  • Lane records and commitments
  • Rate tables you control
  • Accessorial catalogues
  • Customer-specific pricing
  • Quote versus billed compare
03

Carrier and driver documents

Insurance, licence, and permit packets on the party that moves the load, with expiry alerts before a shipper audit.

  • Carrier packet checklists
  • Driver licence and hours docs
  • Insurance and permit files
  • Expiry and missing-item alerts
  • Audit pack per load
04

Detention and accessorials

Clocks at shipper and consignee that survive an argument, plus the extra charges your tariff actually allows.

  • Gate-in and gate-out stamps
  • Free time rules by customer
  • Detention calculators
  • Layover and extra-stop flags
  • Charge approval workflow
05

Shipper freight visibility

Status, ETAs, and documents for the customer of a freight movement — not a consumer parcel tracker for bags.

  • Load tracking for shippers
  • Milestone notifications
  • POD and bill access
  • Appointment windows
  • History by account
06

Settlement-ready close-out

Turn a completed load into clean charges, documents, and export for billing, without retyping the week.

  • Charge roll-up per load
  • Document completeness checks
  • Carrier pay vs customer bill
  • Finance system export
  • Exception hold before invoice
AI for freight operations

Read tenders and clocks so the desk is not typing the load twice

Freight desks spend peak hours copying tenders and chasing documents. AI helps when it extracts load data, flags missing packets, and drafts shipper updates, while a planner still accepts the tender.

Our Join.To.IT AI development team connects these capabilities to your tenders, ELD or telematics events, and document archive.

Tender extraction

Turn EDI, email, and PDF tenders into a draft load with stops, equipment, and references for planner review.

Packet completeness checks

Flag missing insurance, permits, or PODs before the load is marked ready to bill or ready to roll.

Detention clock alerts

Spot loads approaching free-time expiry and draft the accessorial notice while evidence is still fresh.

Shipper update drafts

Draft milestone messages from actual events rather than from a status someone typed hours late.

Lane performance questions

Answer which lanes leak detention or on-time performance from your own closed loads, not from a generic benchmark.

Freight integrations

Connect loads to EDI, ELD, mapping, and finance

Carriers already live in shipper EDI, ELD or tachograph feeds, and accounting. We connect those systems so a load’s events and documents do not have to be re-entered to bill.

Join.To.IT does not operate the carrier network. We build the software that sits on top of the providers and partners you already use.

Why custom software

Why freight operators build instead of stretching a packaged TMS

Packaged transport systems assume a standard tender-to-cash path. Your accessorial rules, owner-operator mix, and shipper portals are usually the competitive part — and the part a generic TMS cannot express without paid professional services forever.

The load is the unit of money

If tenders, detention, and documents do not sit on the load, billing is a reconstruction project.

Courier tools miss the clock

Last-mile stop lists do not model free time, drop-and-hook, or multi-stop freight itineraries.

Shipper portals do not replace yours

Each customer’s visibility tool holds a fragment. Your desk still answers the phone unless you own the record.

Documents expire on the road

A missing permit discovered at a weigh station is more expensive than an alert two weeks earlier.

Per-load SaaS taxes growth

Transaction pricing rises with volume just as you finally have the operating rhythm you wanted to encode.

Our development process

From freight desk reality to a working load platform

The same Join.To.IT delivery process, applied to loads, documents, detention, and shipper visibility.

01

Business analysis

Sit with planners and billing to map how tenders become loads, how documents are chased, and how detention is proved today.

02

Solution design

Define load, lane, party, and event data, plus EDI, ELD, and finance integrations.

03

UI/UX design

Design a load desk that stays usable in a peak tender hour and driver flows that capture gate times without extra paperwork.

04

Development

Build load control and documents first, then detention, shipper visibility, and settlement export.

05

Quality assurance

Test tender ingest, missing-packet holds, detention math, and EDI or telematics dropouts.

06

Launch & support

Pilot one lane or customer account, train the desk, then extend and tune accessorial rules with live loads.

Technologies we use

Web, mobile, cloud, and AI stack for trucking operations

We choose technologies based on tender volume, ELD or tachograph sources, and how much of close-out still happens from a cab.

FAQ

Trucking software development questions

Practical answers for carrier owners, freight brokers’ ops leads, and 3PL dispatch planning a custom build.

How much does custom trucking software development cost?
Cost follows loads, documents, and integrations. A load desk with driver status is a contained build; adding EDI tenders, detention clocks, shipper portals, and settlement export increases scope. We price after discovery against a defined feature set rather than per load.
Do you operate trucks or a carrier network?
No. Join.To.IT builds software for operators who already move freight. We do not run trucks, book third-party capacity as a carrier, or sell a public load board. The product is your load desk, documents, detention clocks, and customer visibility sitting on top of the partners you already work with.
Is this the same as courier or ride-hailing software?
No. Courier pages cover last-mile bags and city stops. Mobility pages cover rider and driver matching. This page is freight: loads, lanes, detention, and shipper documents. Mixing those models is how teams end up with a tool nobody in the cab will use.
Can shippers see their freight without calling dispatch?
Yes. We build account portals and tracking links with milestones, ETAs, and documents you choose to expose. That is freight visibility for B2B shipments, not a consumer parcel map for courier bags. You decide which shipper sees which load events, and dispatch still owns the record the customer is looking at.
How do detention clocks work in the system?
Gate-in and gate-out events, from the driver app or an agreed feed, start and stop free time using the customer’s rules. The desk sees loads approaching expiry and can raise accessorials with a timestamp trail instead of reconstructing the wait from memory.
How long until we can run live loads on the new desk?
A usable load control flow with documents can often reach a pilot lane within a few months of discovery. EDI, detention automation, and settlement export extend the plan. We stage delivery so one customer’s freight can run live before every tender source is connected.
